Oct 13, 2016 · It turned out that PowerShell’s Get-Content cmdlet supports detecting file encoding. It’s undocumented but it works. At least it can correctly read text in utf-8 and ascii (windows-1251 in my case). I’m not sure whether it’s able to detect different ASCII encodings but at least it can differentiate utf8/non-utf8.
